Steven Seewald
President

Steven Seewald has been consulting in the field of environmental engineering and occupational hygiene for over 25 years. Mr. Seewald is the founder, president and CEO of ALARA Environmental Health and Safety Ltd. Mr. Seewald volunteers his time as a Board of Directors member of various other related companies and societies including the Pacific Spirit Park Society.

Mr. Seewald is registered with the Applied Science Technologists and Technician of BC as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT) and a Professional Technologist (PTech), with the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), with the ECO Canada as and Environmental Professional (EP), with the Board for Global EHS Credentialing as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and additionally with the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC as an Professional Licensee Engineering (P.L.Eng.).

Peter Bergholz
President-Elect

Peter Bergholz is the President of PBIH Consulting Inc. and has been in the consulting business for over 20 years and a CIH since 2010. Peter obtained his degree in Environmental Chemistry from SFU and previously worked in an analytical lab conducting analysis of air samples. Peter loves the variety that comes with industrial hygiene and enjoys any challenge especially if it involves chemical risk assessments and confined spaces. He has provided consulting services to a range of industries under various provincial and federal regulatory jurisdictions.

He loves swimming, any kind of exercise and being a spectator at my kid's sporting events.

Tammy Bowen
Past-President

Tammy is an Occupational Hygienist with BC Hydro.  She has 18 years’ experience in the field of Occupational Hygiene and hold the CIH designation.  Tammy earned her diploma in Industrial Hygiene Technology from Lambton College in Sarnia Ontario and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Royal Roads University.  In  her free time, she enjoys cooking, reading, hiking, snowboarding and playing hockey. 

 
 

Aneet Bains
Secretary

Aneet is a Production Safety Manager with Warner Bros. Discovery. I support the Health and Safety Program on scripted and reality TV shows internationally. I graduated from the UBC's Occupational and Environmental Hygiene Masters program. I started my career as an Industrial Hygiene Consultant. In my free time I play tennis, swim, try different dance classes and edit videos.

Gurleen Bhatia
Education Director

Gurleen Bhatia is a faculty member of the Occupational Health & Safety Program at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health from the British Columbia Institute of Technology and a Master's degree in Occupational and Environmental Hygiene from the University of British Columbia. She began her career committed to safeguarding public health and safety as an Environmental Health Officer and eventually transitioned over to the realm of worker heath and safety as an OHS professional. In her current role as an educator, she finds it very rewarding to be able to help mold the minds of budding OHS professionals entering this field.

Gurleen believes that coffee is a food group of its own so you are bound to find her with a cup of coffee in her hand at any given time of the day!

Kia Lidster
Newsletter Editor

Kia is a graduate of the UBC MSc in Occupational & Environmental Hygiene program and is currently an Occupational Hygiene Specialist at WorkSafeBC.  She has previously worked in the healthcare industry and consulting.  She enjoys the diversity of the occupational hygiene profession but her main interest is in the physical hazards, particularly noise and vibration. 

In her spare time she enjoys cycling, playing hockey, cooking (or rather, eating) and has also recently started learning to play the drums.

Mavis Yeh
Advertising Director

Mavis is a CRSP with years of consulting experience in many industries from commercial, construction, mining, and hydroelectric. In recent years, Mavis has been working in the aviation industry full time as a Safety Advisor. In her free time, Mavis is an avid gardener and hobby photographer. You'll find her most often in the garden with her camera, getting her hands dirty. 

 

Rosanna Ma
Treasurer

Rosanna graduated from UBC for her undergrad and BCIT for her Health and Safety Diploma. Her previous work as an industrial hygiene consultant equipped her with valuable insights and experience across various sectors such as construction, marine terminals, and oil sands/refineries. In her current role, Rosanna leverages her experience to increase awareness and address industrial hygiene hazards and safety concerns within her portfolio.  

Outside of work, Rosanna enjoys spending time with her family dog, giving him the best massages and rubs. You may also find her in the garden, attempting to grow crops in the summer and trying to be a good gardener. She also enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends.

Dan Minster
Outreach Director

Dan is a recent BCIT Occupational Health and Safety Diploma graduate and has recently earned his CRST designation. He is currently working toward achieving his CRSP certification. While new to the OHS field, Dan brings over two decades of experience in accident prevention through training and mentoring lifeguards. He is passionate about transferring this knowledge to support workplace safety across a variety of industries.

Helen Cheung
Membership Director

Helen is an OHS Advisor and applies her expertise in occupational health and safety to ensure the safety and well-being of all employees. She is actively pursuing her CRSP certification, demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning and professional development. She enjoys working with people and networking, and she values any occasion to share her knowledge and learn from others in the OHS and hygiene community. 

When Helen isn't working, she can often be found training for triathlons or playing boardgames with friends. As an avid swimmer, biker, and runner, she welcomes the physical and mental challenges that come with the sport. She approaches both her work and personal pursuits with the same high energy and enthusiasm, always seeking new challenges and opportunities to grow.

Jasmond Sangh
Social Media Director

Jasmond graduated from SFU's Health Sciences and BCIT's OHS program. He has worked in health and safety for various industries such as retail, insurance, construction, property management and film productions. Jasmond is currently working within the industrial hygiene consulting industry. Jasmond enjoys hiking, playing badminton, soccer, and spending time with his family.

Kevin Zhang
Webmaster

Kevin is working in mining as a fly in fly out IH. Originally from Toronto and attended U of T for both undergrad in physiology and criminology as well as MPH in Occupational and Environmental Health. He enjoys keeping up with the technology, fitness, and the video game industry.

Osob Mohamed
UBC Student Representative

Osob is a first year masters student in the Occupational and Environmental Hygiene program at UBC, and holds a BSc. in Population and Quantitative Health Sciences from SFU. She currently leads the regional Health Equity and Community Engagement program at Fraser Health Authority. As an undergraduate student Osob was deeply involved in student advocacy and engagement, representing more than 26,000 students as the President and Staff Liaison Officer of the Simon Fraser Student Society. In her free time she enjoys reading, biking, and trying new restaurants and cafes.

Jaskarn Grewal
BCIT Student Representative

Jaskarn Grewal is a 2nd year Occupational Health & Safety Student at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Simon Fraser University. As a kinesiologist, Jaskarn saw a variety of work related injuries and their effects on workers which inspired him to join the program to prevent injuries like these. As he completes his second year, he has learned a lot about the field of OHS through his studies and his internship at the CSSHSA. He hopes to be able to use what he learned to ensure people go home safe at the end of the day.

Jaskarn often spends his free time training at a gym or running long distance. He also enjoys cooking for his partner and playing games with friends.
